This plant is by far the lushest and most voluptuous late daylily in my garden. In 1997, bloom began in early August and extended almost to September. (As a marker, my first bloom of SANDRA ELIZABETH appeared August 28.) The name may seem a bit unusual; it is after a book of the same title written by Arthur J. ("Jack") Kirschstein, an uncle (if I remember correctly) of my wife's, which details his family's escape from eastern Europe during the war between Poland and Bolshevist Russia that wore on for a few years after the WWI Armistice was signed in 1918. (You didn't know there was such a war? Better read the book.)
Two fans were given to Ron Valente in May 1999 for propagation and introduction.
