Stedman Buttrick, center, in blazer and bow tie; Mrs. Nesmith, right, in pink dress. Stedman Buttrick hybridized both daylilies and iris and his garden was on the grounds of his mansion in Concord, Mass. (near the Old North Bridge) which is now the headquarters building for Minuteman National Park. Thus, the building and grounds are open to the public and in July enormous clumps of as-yet-not-identified daylilies can be seen in full bloom. A bountiful display of iris blooms is on view prior to the daylily season.
